June, 1964. Black children integrate the swimming pool of the Monson Motel. To force them out, the owner pours acid into the water.

And white folk wonder why

My mom was born in ‘64, kay? So, what that means is… THIS SHIT WASN’T THAT LONG AGO AND Y’ALL NEED TO STOP ACTING LIKE THE SHIT WE TALK ABOUT IS ARCHAIC AND OLD-HAT.

my mom was still in trinidad when this happened but seriously it could’ve happened to either my aunt or uncle who were 12 and 15/16 respectively

I think photos like this need to exist, not because I like the subject matter, but because it helps immortalize events that many people want to forget ever happened (and work pretty hard to make it so). It makes us face it. I’ve seen this picture before, but don’t know all the details. I hope the children in this photo were okay.

My mom was three and my dad was 5 when this happened.
My aunt was 12. My uncle was 16.
THIS COULD HAVE BEEN THEM.

smh

this is fucked up yes.
but why are we still trying to make white people as a collective whole feel guilty?
referring to the comment: “And white folk wonder why.”

I can’t speak for who made that comment, but I will say this.
I do not want a guilty-feeling White person around me. Guilty feeling White people do nothing. Guilty feeling White people can, quite frankly, take a ride on the Titanic and sink down into the icy Atlantic Ocean.
I need a White person around that KNOWS. That comment seems to be about KNOWING. “White people wonder [keyword: wonder] why” because they don’t KNOW. That person appears to be simply saying a lack of information has caused many White people not to understand the world they live in today.
Now quit derailing with nonsense. (And don’t be confused, taking someone else’s 4 words and applying an intention to them that wasn’t inherently there in the wording is nonsense. If a White person was on this thread talking about how guilty they felt, I’d give you a little credit, but there hasn’t been not one post about that at all. However, this is one of a few derailments! So, Whites don’t need your help drawing attention away from others knowledge. The White man is already on the job.)
